Scion of terribly minor Glantrian nobility, Robert Hazart has learned a measure of practical thaumaturgy at the Great School of Magic before setting out to make his fortune. For a time he hosted his fellow members of the Company of Crossed Swords at his family's manse in Glantri City, much to the chagrin of his aunt. But since his acquisition of the Cube of Power, he's had bounty hunters after him to pull the cube from his cold dead hands, so he keeps a low profile in civilized areas.
Looking for a Gourd Lantern Day Outfit (Carousing Glantri Session 55)
Robert will starts raiding the trunks in the attic of Chateau Hazart for a bitchin' Gourd Lantern Day hat that he remembered that his great uncle Adolfus had. It was orange and pointed but instead of a brim, it was wrapped in a pumpkin-like turban at the base. He will also seek out great leather shoulder-pads that arc upward, as is fashionable by all the unruly noble Glantri spawn nowadays, and go to many fine Glantrian shops looking for Gourd Lantern day accouterments like an elegant holly poking-stick.
Unable to find Adolfus's turban-hat, Robert procures a similar headpiece from a posh hatter. Similar visits yield elegantly overlarge shoulder pads marked with seasonal pokerwork designs and a delightfully carved holly poking stick.
On his way back to the family estate, as he passes down a short street near the Thrysus Fountain, Robert is beset by a band of gourd-masked ruffians! He is thoroughly poked, prodded and knocked to the ground, and his newly-purchased mask, shoulder pads and stick are taken from him! When he picks himself up and dusts himself off, he feels frantically for the Cube of Power. The artifact is — by great good fortune! — still intact, with not a crack in it.
Then he puts his hand to his belt pouch and finds it missing. Accursed cutpurses!
(You rolled a 6, spending 900gp and gaining 900xp. For your saving throw, you rolled a 9: failure! Your remaining 93gp is stolen, leaving you destitute. Congratulations: you are now an Enchanter, capable of preparing and casting third-level spells! For your first third-level spell, you may learn a spell that you already have access to — either dispel magic or fireball from a scroll, consuming the scroll in the process, or clairvoyance, fly or water breathing, all of which you have found in spellbooks. Alternatively, you may obtain a new spell randomly.)
Robert stalks off down the alleyway with only his freshly dirtied gourd hat grumbling about the degenerate state of the city. The elegant dress ws starting to make him feel like a true Wizard-About-Town but the brigandly shove down to the cobblestones has strengthened his resolve to rise to new heights. And hire people to beat the snot out of would be thieves he encounters on the streets. Robert hits the books while hanging out on the Chateau Hazart's porch, planning revenge among the freshly lit Gourd Lanterns.
