Lord Gladius
Sir Carabad recollects that Lord Gladius had a tower somewhere to the west of Stonehenge. Gladius, a Roman knight, suffered none to pass lest they joust; should he lose the joust, Gladius's knights would cut off his beard and fly it from a pole. Such was the fate of the beard of Sir Laern of Silchester, but Sir Carabad cunningly cut off his own beard and tossed it the river to prevent its mistreatment by ruffians.
