Godmotron

This is a random system for creating your cleric’s god, using the old school aesthetic of randomness. It is assumed you are rolling up your god with your character at the game table…

Step 1

Take the following dice: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, & d30

Step 2

cup all the dice in your hand, and appeal to the universe for a worthy deity (optional,) and roll all of them at once.

Step 3

Consult the following tables with those dice rolls, to determine your god's nature.

d4: Aspect (Appearance)

3 monstrous/creature
4 elemental/abstract

d6: syllables in god’s name:

1 1 syllable
2,3 2 syllables
4,5 3 syllables
6 4+ syllables (can take more then 4, but have to use all of them in gods name.)

(Roll a d100 for for each syllable and consult the syllable chart at the bottom of the page.)

d8: God’s might:

An indication of the ability to assist the cleric.

2-4 Petty god
5-6 Minor god
7 Major god
8 Insane god

4-6 Neutral
7-9 Chaotic
0 Unknown

1 No church - temples are abandoned and (mostly) forgotten.
2 Tribal - worshiped only in wild and broken lands.
3 Proscribed faith - only underground cults, actively hunted by the powers that be.
4 Minor church - popular in out in the sticks.
5 Crackpot cult - most people find your faith tiresome or hilarious.
6 Giving faith - members can never refuse a request for aid.
7 Inquisition - Is on a crusade against a perceived dire threat, people, or faith.
8 Depraved Cult- behind its temple doors dark appetites are sated.
9 Ascetic church - its followers are expected to take vows of poverty and humility.
10 Rich church - its temples are known for their beauty and opulence.
11 Major religion- active missionaries travel the lands, large temples in most civilized cities.
12 The great work- Order keeps no temples, but is instead focused on a world shaking project. (Could be something nice, or could be the return of a dark god to sunder the land and boil the seas. Your choice.)
