We'll be playing some Pendragon tonight (May 2) at Bread & Butter on 29th and Park Ave at 7:00 PM!

It's 532 AD! Our knights are now ancient and in their early- to mid-thirties. The time has come for them to pass the torch onto the next generation of stalwart heroes. Who will heed the call to adventure?

Last exciting episode, Sir Carabad attended court in Camelot, where he greeted King Today of Otherthere and his bizarre entourage of pigmen, giants, and assorted fae creatures. Songs were sung, honey was purloined, and long-nosed babies were rescued. Much rejoicing was had by all.

Tonight: Banditry in Wales! A notorious trio of outlaw knights have raided Cameliard and stolen Guenever's family jewels. Who will bring these cads to justice?

I've been very curious to see how this plays, unfortunately my near-apathy for knights has vetoed joining.

Woe for Sir Bledri the Marvelous, crushed by a giant's club as he roused a band of dishonorable French knights to slay the beast! We shall not see his like again. (Oh, and woe for Sir Cadfannan or whatever his name was, also giant-squashed, etc.)

Bledri the Marvelous is marvelous for being the shortest-lived of the knights we have met thus far, though perhaps poor Lady Aethelflaed would win that sad race.

Cadfannan, long-suffering squire to the eccentric Sir Carabad the Knight of Constant Sorrow, has gone on to his heavenly reward and does not regret passing this vale of woe forever.

Sternum has expressed some skepticism about our falcon plan. I think it makes perfect sense:

1. Somebody stole the jewels!
2. Bledri the Marvelous was a marvel of falconry
3. Falcons can fly real high
4. Falcons have great eyesight
5. Jewels sparkle
6. Falcons can see sparkling jewels from a long way off
7. Crows like to steal jewels and then return them to their nefarious master, if comic books have taught me anything
8. A falcon is a lot like a crow when you think about it
9. Bledri's falcon could spot the jewels anywhere in England, swoop down, and return them to us, simple as that

Somehow he felt we were not approaching the situation seriously. Unfortunately, we are better at falconry than being detectives. The more I think about it, I think those lepers were being framed. It's bad enough that we have a discriminatory housing policy against them, but now folks are just blaming them for crimes left and right. Bigotry is ugly.

I admit there's a logical wobble at Step 8, but that means eight-ninths of our plan was perfectly sound. 88.88 repeating % rounds up to 89%. That's a really solid B+ as far as plans go. They don't get much better. And I mean that: our plans don't.

Mating a falcon with a crow naturally leads to visiting the young (not-yet-Sir) Percival by accident, which leads to talking to peasants, which leads to hunting down lepers, which leads to visting a monastery, which leads to talking to a wounded knight, which leads to attacking a giant. Which leads to two of us getting super-killed.

Live and learn, as they say! I did not live, so don't expect me to learn a thing from this. Other than to not listen to IO's peer pressure on the rare occasions when I think about doing something sensible such as retreating from battle to save my companion Bledri the Marvelous from super-death.

Buried lead: Sir Ysgarran the Splendid, he of the musical voice and tumbling golden locks, did not perish and indeed returned said jewels and a golden cross stolen from the abbot home, after driving his lance through the hog-sized heart of the fiendish giant. Surely Lady Nia will be impressed and her reluctance might drop two full points this year from 19 to 17!

As the original author of the plan, I can only say that our hunting skills sucked and I thought half the knights in Britain had already talked to the victims. Falconry was our best available hammer and you have to start looking or nails somewhere.

Yes! Sir Ysgarran accomplished great deeds which redound to the greater glory of his lord Carabad. If he hadn't sold off his liege-gift super-horse in 531, he could have been rewarded with a manor … But now he's just back at par. Luckily Sir Carabad knows a little thing or two about loving noble ladies, and can sympathize.
