CRAP! I thought Trollbabe was perfect for redboxers, till James steered me to this!
Donjon!!!

Let me say this, I was reading Donjon during accounting class and doodling in my book, and wow, this game delivers! So simple and so crazy. I can't believe how awesomely it delivers on the dungeon experience. It is significantly more powerful for players than red box, but wow… just, wow.

I paid for the PDF gladly, but there seems to be a free text version online.

I don't think there's any lack of interest in this group: it's a game Quendalon and I have been dying to play (well, maybe not literally dying in my case; I can't speak for Eric.)

Ugh… urrk… gah! *death rattle*

OK, perhaps I'm not dying either. But I'm interested in giving it a try.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not, but I redesigned the Donjon character sheets to look more like ripoffs of the old basic D&D character sheets! See for yourself!

I think what I might do is include a bunch of Myconoid-based hallucinogens in one of the upcoming adventures; people play D&D to the midway point, and then we all switch to Donjon for the remainder of the adventure. With someone else running it.

Also: someone else would have to provide the dice, because I've only got about 20 d10's. It looks like most players would need, like, 15 d20's or something.

BTW I have the "monster manual" for Donjon, I'd be glad to share if I can find it again.

That sounds crazy and/or awesome. Also, I don't know whether I'd rather have the fun of running the Donjon sequence, or if I'd rather have the fun of playing it. That's a hard choice!

I think it's fairest to let Scott to have the option of running it, if he wants to.

Otherwise it's just a question of letting the Donjon Master come up with is own adventure, and tell me what I need to know to set it up. Oh, and having a lot of d20's.

I also think it would be funny to do a Time Travel type of thing where, in the Renaissance equivalent, everyone is suddenly using 3.5 rules for an adventure… (I refuse to run that, because I don't know 3.X well enough to run it.)

I won't speak one way or the other, I don't have a grasp on the Donjon rules yet, and it's kinda hard to prep for considering encounters can totally be generated by players themselves. Success dice can be rolled over to another action or added to a consequence OR traded as declared 'facts' that come into being. Magic items you are looking for are made up by the player first, then the quality of the item works as a rarity to roll against of them discovering it on a particular body.

But I wouldn't mind if another GM ran it or I ran it, though I would enjoy the opportunity to run it, and half a session take the sweat off a bit!

Please run it, Scott. I was just being overenthusiastic. :-D

I would love to play Donjon, either as part of a myconid trip or a session unto itself!

I'd also gladly take up the gauntlet and run a game that alternated between complexity levels, though instead of in-game time travel I'd lean toward switching when the characters stepped through a magic mirror (or got drunk/sobered up). We could do 3.5 or 4E on the crunchy side, and Red Box/OD&D or Dungeon Squad on the hyperspeed side: http://www.1km1kt.net/rpg/dungeon-squad.
