Blackjack Dusseldorf comes from a dwarven clan whose sole profession is adventuring.
My mother always told me, "Blackjack, you're the smartest one of the bunch (Intelligence 9). Don't waste those beautiful brains of yours being dashed out on the dull end of some orc's scimitar! You need to do the thing the rest of your brothers and sisters never could suss out — READ!" So I took those words to heart. I attacked the great libraries in the dwarven capital of Dengar back in Rockhome like I would've a two-headed hobgoblin with a set of platinum ass-cheeks…head on. I ripped through volume after volume for years until they finally kicked me out. But lemme tell you, Mama Dusseldorf raised her boy right. I had gotten the hang of it — I could read those ancient histories as well as the best smithy could forge an axe! I remember every detail and can tear through any shear of papers quicker than trolls through mutton jerky. It's like I always say…those who forget the past are doomed to…err…to die.
Voracious historian — Blackjack is an historian of no small note, having pored over more than a human library's worth of ancient dwarven histories of the known world. In addition, his years of honing his craft has made him a speed-reader with the ability to glean a tome's meaning with but a few minutes worth of study.
