- the giant conflict could make for some fun Book of War games, or even a larger-scale rule set that's related to the Adventurer Conqueror King book we passed around
- Mount Rugneirheim, where the giants have taken up residence, is riddled with tunnels
Having taken what the giants have thrown at us and come out on top (except for the cavalry before the dragon got fireballed), the Grey Company has the giants on their heels somewhat. Why drop this advantage, and let them fortify and regroup to deal with someone many in the company has had no dealings with?
Book of War or larger-scale combat is part of what higher-level D&D is supposed to feature, at least according to those old-timers who got to high-levels back then. One of the things that makes this campaign so great is that it goes places many campaigns don't, carousing being one of them, but the promise of strongholding and mass combat being the others.
The tunnels of Rugneirheim sound labyrinthine enough for a dungeony feel. Also, narrow quarters should negate a lot of the size advantage the giants have, especially their ability to throw boulders. Jarri smells blood, giant blood, and he wants to be knee-deep in it! OK, OK, waist-deep.
