Through the White Sandbox game I have become pretty interested in the Outdoor Survival game board, both as an artifact of the game's early days when there was an indiscriminate scavenging of any tools that helped make the game more fun. But also there is something interesting about appropriating a map designed for another purpose entirely, and dropping the PCs into it and see what happens. This is not a region that was designed with a thought toward baronies, wizards towers, or dragon's lairs. Its intended to be pure wilderness and its design was just to be a space to get lost in.
Anyway, after picking up a copy of the game off of eBay, I spent probably a bit too much time scanning it and fixing it up in photoshop. It clearly was a large painting/watercolor that was photographed and then had a hex grid superimposed. none of the elements on the board are repeating bits, other then the game icons.
In any case, I went ahead and made a version of the file without the game icons- just a regular hex map ready for an old school campaign. I cleaned up most of it, since the board I found was well loved, but I left the fold wrinkle across the middle to keep the board game feel it it. Here is a link to a wallpaper sized version.
But also thinking about this as a game aid, I have set it up on Snapfish so anyone can buy a poster of the map via snap fish. I posted 2 versions, one for the 16x20 size poster ($15), and the other for the 20x30 poster ($20). (the map itself is almost square, so both of those have some extra space on the right that can be trimmed off, or used for notes. make sure to check the preview before ordering to make sure you have the correct version for the size you are ordering, or parts of the top and bottom will be cropped off.)
