Session 2 - February 12, 2011

With hearty thanks to Adrian and Joe for helping me remember how to DM. With luck I will be able to run session three before another six months go by…

Though she was skeptical at first, Daukai the Eloquent fully supports Yann Lithby's claim to the fortress. Why would a doddering, elderly, borderline-competent Magic-User fake a claim to a notorious deathtrap?

The reciprocal part of that agreement - namely that Yann can claim any proceeds in excess of 100% of all treasure claimed - is pure good sense, and Daukai looks forward to honoring the terms. We support your claim, and pay you any transfinite amounts of gold that we may encounter in exchange for all merely finite sums of treasure.

All five players survived, although Nairda has mummy-rot, and several were gravely wounded.
Players earned 469 exp each, and are each 128 gp richer - except for Daukai, who gained 64 gp and gave half her share to Aleris the hireling, who is so pleased that Daukai will get positive reaction rolls with Aleris for some time to come…

My thanks to everyone who played - I had a great time, and it was fun to see you escape from the mummy.

Thanks! I was sad to see you go at that particular moment; only a few minutes later the party encountered the first exotic monster found in the dungeon so far - you would have liked them.

On the first morning of his cure, Nairda is awoken before dawn by a procession leaving the shrine: the bishop leading four monks and a torch-bearer down the valley road. It is an unsettling sight, the torchbearer out of place behind the blind five clerics. During the day various acolytes subjecting Nairda to various invasive purgings and deprivations explain the bishop's purpose: to deliver them all from the evil of the mummy and to bring back what valuables were buried with it.

On the fifth day of his cure Nairda awakes in his cell, shivering from the cold of the stone bed and the fading mummy-rot. At the door is an unfamiliar monk. As with all of the clerics of this faith his eyes have been torn out but he walks unaided, as though he can see.

"Nairda," he says, "my master, the bishop, left four days ago with two acolytes and two adepts. He has not returned and we fear the worst. Tell your companions we will pay for knowledge of his whereabouts, delivery of his body, or safe passage home."

[Just laying groundwork for the next session of Ran Lithby, whenever that happens].

Nairda, as a follower of Law I appreciate your eagerness to fight the Mummy yourself, thus sparing the Bishop this terrible sacrifice! But you must rest, my friend.

But do not gnash your teeth and pull your hair in sympathy for him! As a clergyman of the Law he is honor-bound to give his life in the quest to bring Order to Chaos. His death is not to be mourned, but celebrated as he approaches his destiny. No no, my friend, do not think that he will be insulted by a crass material reward - his prize is Life Everlasting. You will join him in due time, I feel certain; there is no need to race!
