My old friend and I are throwing dice in my basement, he'll run B3 for me, I may run either B2 or B4 for him.

We've ordered copies of Erol Otus covered Basic and Expert rules for now, and are watching for cheap copies of the Rules Cyclopedia on ebay, etc.

The plan is to circumvent the whole original names problem and to name our characters as complete ripoffs, so our party could consist of:

King Arthur, Shazam, Tarzan, Gandalf, Montezuma, Friar Tuck, Alexander the Great, Ronnie James Dio, Bilbo Baggins, Elric, etc.. I can always use 'Son of' or 's cousin' if I get a bit attached.

Quick Question: I really don't understand Carousing examples at all between Glantri and Tavis' Sandbox. I understand intents stated, but the rolling system and the outcomes seem a bit strange. Any chance this can be explained for an idiot such as myself? But only if it involves experience in addition to that earned from treasure. If it is in lieu of treasure XP, count me out!

As I understand it, the carousing system is designed to supplement, but not replace, treasure-as-XP. Tavis had been doing it as a Save mechanic to determine if mishaps occur, and then a 1dX to determine how much gold was spent before craziness ensues, where X varies depending on the location where you're carousing. I think this is the root of Eric's carousing system as well, though he's made other modifications.

Currently, however, Tavis is using some kind of stat-based system derived from Apocalypse World's custom moves, built as needed.

Okay, so (feel free to correct me):

I'm in some city, maybe, and spend 1d8X100gp on carousing a way to teach city orphans to see in the ethereal plane to give them guidance and to prevent juvenile delinquency and have a ready source of desperate apprentices with questionable morals. I roll a 6, so 600 gp are lost?

Quendalon's game:
I make a save of some kind on d20, let's say vs. spells, and I fail, rolling a 12, or I succeed. I realize complications happen with failure, but do I only get XP with the success? Is the money spent regardless? Is this right? Walk me through this?

Tavis' game:
I roll 2d6, 7+ means success + conditions, 10+ complete success. I guess I get 600 XP on 7+? Do I get more XP on a 10+? Do I get any on a failure?
