Hello my dear pre-4th eders! To further elaborate on our group I am going to respond to James' post. I apologize for making a bit of a mess on your forums yesterday, but I think I'm finally in the right thread :D
Mel, today's bad for me due to other commitments, but I'd be up for a game sometime. I live in Battery Park City, so Staten Island is fairly close by and I enjoy taking the ferry. How often do you play? Is it always on weekends
We play once a week, there is an 80% chance that a game will be hosted on the weekends as me and Sarah are both students and Mike works a real job with real hours. Thursdays, however, may sometimes be worked in depending on everyone's schedule. I really am just a stones throw from the ferry so the commute isn't so bad, and the ferry is super romantic if you wanna bring a special someone to a game and or draw a little face on your hand and make out with said sharpie creation in sight of the statue of liberty
Tell us more about your game! You say it's Labyrinth Lord, but last night you also said it was "first-edition rules." I'm not up on the latest simulacra, but I thought Labyrinth Lord was a clone of the D&D Basic Game from the 1980's (the eponymous Red Box) - which is quite different from Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (First Edition). I don't think this would be a deal-breaker for anybody, but I'm just curious.
Because we are just starting out on Labyrinth Lord, I probably was not too clear about what we're doing (I was confused myself). We are playing 0riginal Ed. Mechanics however our DM, Evan has been slightly more forgiving about some harsher aspects to the Red Box rules. For example, he is more lenient on rolling stats (Which I think may be adopting the 1st ed. rules on this but I am not too sure). So far Lord Labyrinth has been great barring the fact that we have been rolling level 1 characters and have been talking about rolling higher ones to see different mechanics and how class structures will be playing out. We also have a strong interest in Pathfinder, and just adopted another dear NYU student who is craving some 3.5 lovin. So we may have some 3.5 nights. It is loosely structured at this point - all we know is that we're not going to be doing 4th ed. and are just trying things out to see what we like. In the end we will most likely settle on two separate campaigns: one being Labyrinth Lord and another being Pathfinder.
What level are your little adventure-guys? Are you playing a module or something home-brewed? What's the funnest thing that's happened so far? Do you guys have a website? You guys are certainly welcome to share this one - it's my goal to get all the Old-Timey D&D games in New York City under one roof…
OOO a website! That's a good idea. We are, so far just a little group of friends that want to meet new players! We do have some affiliation with Nerd NYC and like exploring different table top games. The four of us met through the one-shots at Compleat Strategist, and I hunted John down from one of my linguistics classes (he may have been clad in hipster clothes and oh-so NY fashionable, but I could smell secret table-top nerd in there from across the room: I have great Nerd-dar). I guess we've sorta unofficially become a DDD group which is more like Drinking Dungeons and Dragons. Our Dear GM is a wannabe "beer connoisseur" who demands microbrews on hand at all times. But non-drinkers are welcome! We're not nerd-lushes who get sloppy and start rolling d20s everywhere doing "am I too drunk to drive?" checks, we just like to get together and have a few drinks and play the best game ever created. As far as the funniest thing to ever happen (this may be inappropriate! avert your eyes young ones!) was when we discovered Sarah's male character had been kidnapped and gangraped by Orcs, and I had to Cure Light Wounds his butt so he would stop walking funny.

I had a great time meeting you & playing Jungle Speed last night! Let me know if you do put together a kids-appropriate game that my seven-year-old and I can play in together, and keep posting your other big kids ("adults" sounded too pretentious) game-dates in case I can get free for one of them.
Hi Tavis! I just wanted to clear this up, when I was talking about a kids game, I wasn't speaking of this group. There is a small subgroup of NerdNYC that is very kid friendly. At the last recess (awesome all day gaming event) we had a table that was family-oriented that I played at, (we played Killer Bunnies and Scallywaggs and some dear little 9 year old kicked my pirate booty - pun intended) and at the end of the game there was a strong discussion (mostly by the fathers wanting to make their progeny little adorable DandD nerds) about making a kids appropriate game. My best friend DMs for his nephews and nieces (In Oregon :( unfortunately) but he has made some great campaigns that we could steal for a 7-13 age bracket. I love kids and if we can spread the love of D and D to the next generation we definitely should!
