What do we think? I'm available Wednesday this week.
I'm currently a maybe for every day but Friday, which is a definite no. I'll know more tomorrow afternoon.
Edit: At current rates I'll be able to do Wed/Thur
Again into the deep dark of the wilderness that is me figuring out whatever it is that I'm trying to do.
The Party:
Grimbly
Proofrock Compositor, Half-Elf Paladin of the Mechanical Tree
Argot Haussenpheffer, Mountain Dwarf Barbarian
The casualties:
More of Grimbly's pride.
A pack of cultists.
An ooze.
Many Spiders.
A gem.
Upon hearing that some people's basements where now entryways to the underworld, the party set off to find one of these such basements. They sought the most dilapidated structure they could find, and knocked on the door. The door was opened by an Elf of no repute, and they announced that they were inspectors from the city. The elf wasn't buying it, but didn't care enough to put up resistance. The party entered the basement there, and found a foundation in dire straights. There was a thin gap in the back of the wall, which they took some time to open up, in case they needed to make a quick escape. Down, down into the ground they traveled, until they reached a wall.
The wall presented no apparent secrets, and so the decision was made to force their way though, which was accomplished in little time. They found themselves in a large tower, with the stairs upwards having been destroyed, the remnants visible on the ground below. They traveled down the stairs, and part of the way down, the stairs collapsed beneath Argot, catching him up to the groin and inflicting some damage. Due to his brave sacrifice, the party was made aware of the lapse in building codes, and progressed without incident.
They encountered two cultists that were excavating a jewel statue from some collapsed rubble. The party charged in and slew the cultists before they knew what hit them. Gems were recovered expertly from the statue, with one breaking. A door was checked and found to be constructed entirely out of wood. Some javelins were turned into quarterstaves, and an ooze was slain. A cultist uniform was found in the puddle, and along with the uniforms from the two previously slain cultists, put on the party.
They continued along, and saw a room full of mushrooms. Upon entry, Proofrock was accosted by violent fungal appendages, and he used his shield to break the blow. Vigorous slashing and blasting later, some investigation was done. Some thought was put into harvesting mushrooms, but the idea was ultimately thrown out. Argot noticed that the room was unreasonably warm, and a wall slanted. The party discovered a round crack that appeared to be leaking visible humidity, but were unable to make their way past.
The opened a door, and found some things floating in the room beyond. Grimbly threw a coin into the room, which also floated. Proofrock threw a quarterstaff into the room, and it slowed and ultimately fell to the ground, causing a shift in the movement of the objects in the room beyond. Grimbly was able to produce a flash of light, and it was revealed that spiders. The spiders brought Grimbly low, but were hewn apart by the collective efforts of Proofrock and Argot. Grimbly was brought back around, and had hands layed upon him by Proofrock, restoring him to vigor.
They ventured to another room off of the mushroom room, and came into a room that appeared to be largely eaten, with the exceptions of a few pieces of art. Attacked by a green slime, which fell away surprisingly easily. The party discovered the robes they were wearing had some form of anti-slimeness attached to them. Silver Threaded Cloth acquired. Short lunch taken in the Room formerly known as the Spider Room.
The party attacked some cultists, one of which was capable of casting spells, to little effect. After his allies were mowed down, the spellcaster attempted to flee, and was successful in doing so. In his attempts to catch and kill the spellcaster, Argot flung his greataxe wildly, flinging it into a statue. The party recollected themselves in the room the cultists had been plotting in, and discovered a moving a pedestal.
The party was able to sell the silver threaded cloth to a local dandy, and after a certain amount of effort were able to sell the gems. As they were trying to find a buyer for the pedestal, Proofrock discovered a false bottom, and three scrolls were discovered, as well as one potion. They took the pedestal around to some local temples, attempting to find one with garbing similar to the cultists, but were unable to. One of the locations offered to buy the pedestal, but the party, especially Proofrock, felt lowballed. Proofrock kept the pedestal.
Treasure: 104gp to Argot and Grimbly, 88gp and an Ash Pedestal to Proofrock. 1 potion. 1 Scroll containing two arcane spells of the first level. 1 scroll containing the divine spells Searing Smite and Wrathful smite. 1 scroll containing two arcane cantrips. 20xp to each adventurer.
Lessons:
I need to figure out a way to balance things. Damage is bonkers; Everybody deals a lot of damage, players only have ~d10 hp. I also did not predict the effects big stats would have on things. Grimbly is a force of nature with his eldritch blasts have a +6 to hit.
I need to be better about running NPCs/random encounters. Too much hanging around waiting to get scrapped upon.
I'm a little afraid of killing tpcs. I need to stop that.
Shields Shall be Splintered is a cool rule, that does a lot for survivability at an opportunity cost. I think I'll keep it in, for now.
Not enough experience. Need more experience.
I really, really need to get my citycrawl rules hammered out.
