New wave of updates are up at the link above. I think they're totally up to date now, although the new cave system to the NE is Very Wrong. I'm considering asking the group to just bring rope and 10' poles to measure it out enough that Eric can just draw it for me to copy.

I've also added a new level for "other dimensions", since I'm pretty sure Thomasina's Refuge goes off the edge of the map.

Edit: I've also been keeping versions of the old maps as I update them. If anyone's curious to see our progress, the full log is here.

Ahaha, I actually do keep dates on each of the backlogged versions I have. Sadly, I didn't do this almost at all back when I first started mapping, so my early maps have pretty big gaps between them. If I sent early versions of the maps to any of you when I was first making them you should totally send them to me.

Maybe I should make a big side-by-side one that shows what order we found stuff in. It actually wouldn't be too hard…

Knorr Bremse has been watching the intense discussions about mapping for days. While Ja'Tubis, Cut, and others copy and re-copy, argue and discuss fine points of stairways and heights, corridors and angles, Knorr's brow wrinkles, he squints his eyes, and repeatedly draws breath as if to say something, but does not speak.

Finally, he approaches.

"Mebbe I don't know much about much, but let me tell you about deep mining for the basalt ore that contains adamant. The ore is hard and magical to boot - it produces magical darkness and even dwarf-sight does not work around it. We have to map underground caverns most careful-like by torchlight to figure out where the ore is. When drilling for a seam of ore you do not want to be off by even a few feet."

He produces a length of heavy hemp cord. While they watch, he carefully paces out 10' segments of the cord and ties together lengths as necessary to create a 50' long cord marked at 10' intervals with special knots.

He explains that two somewhat practiced delvers can use such a cord to quickly and accurately map straight line distances as they walk along, leapfrogging and saving the time and uncertainly of having to pace out distance. This works especially well for refining existing maps, as a team can verify distances very quickly against the pre-measured cord.

Knorr offers to buy material sufficient to make several 50' cords for the company, and offers to practice this technique with anyone willing, first in daylight, then later in darkness until they have a good sense of how to hold the cord and work in pairs to calculate distances as they move from place to place.

We have this forgotten page tracking The Towers of Chateau d'Ambreville. This is meant to be a catalog of what we have and haven't searched, with some notes on what we've found or learned. That said, I don't think it's 100% up to date (if anyone has better info, please update the page!).

Note: there are definitely a couple of fudges, where a live map from the expedition does not line up exactly, so I extrapolated.

For instance in session 119, the two corridors that led into the shifting room did not line up, so I altered the length of the southern (east to west) corridor to make them fit sensibly.

Also note the additional set of stairs descending to level 4 on my map that I think is not reflected in your current version. They are south of the Eternal War room, on the west end of the wide corridor.

That whole area just south of the Grand Stair is a huge mess, to be honest. The map I was working off of had one of those big "whoops, pretend these two halls connect" spots right in the center of it, and I just bullshitted my way through making things fit. Maybe some day we have a real light crew we can clear out a few final rooms on level one and double-check a few questionable mapping spots.

Oh god, I just realized that the room I labeled as 'gnollpocalypse' is actually a big chunk of wall and not a room at all.
A couple of things to follow up on:

LoBo's original map of the Jester pit trap suggests that there are a couple of staircases to L3 further east down that hall (one in a room near the corner, and a big one just off the hallway when it turns south). They would deposit us in an unmapped part of L3 north of the grand stair.

The original L2 compilation map has a staircase (down? up?) off the west side of the room just northwest of the aviary. edit: I think this must be a mistake, but it's a relatively strange mapping mistake, so I'm curious about what's actually there.

Alright, based on what I have access to at the moment-here's my first attempt. There were a lot of little notes I couldn't read on the scanned versions, so I'm hoping to fill in a bit more text after next week's session. Also, I should note that this is all based on two completely non-connected maps-one centering around the Grand Stairs and one around Alienor's Tower. Still, I think I found a link between them that confirms my placement of the two in relationship to each other.

Level 1
Level 2
Level 3

Any thoughts or corrections?

Moar birds was before my time, but the place we fought the goblins was three levels, I thought? There was the level we came in on, the level Barbaby almost died on, and the level with the fountains.

I actually sort of want to check out that long L of rooms right by where we estimate the dragon tower to be at some point. We didn't find any connections when we actually went into the tower, but some day we're going to have to deal with an angry dragon bursting the hell out of that thing, probably while we're inside the tower itself, and if we know a secret door that takes us into a dungeon too tight for it to follow it could save a lot of lives.

The map you are drawing from is mine. (First, good luck, it's a great, much-needed project!) There are doubtless inconsistencies.

1. The wider part of each stairs is the upper portion of the stairwell. If the wider section is what connects to the current level, then the stairs go down.

2. The Aviary is pretty confusing, but is two stories. Yes, it is where we fought the Moar Birds and most lately the night goblins. I am not sure what is shown is correct, that there is a double doors across from the other double doors on the right.

3. Dotted lines denote the balconies overlooking gallery spaces on the floor below. The stairs here go down into an open area. You read correctly.

My first question: Does anybody know where all these unlabeled stairs lead? Up? Down?

Also, is the Aviary one of those giant multi-level rooms we run into every so often? If so, is it a full three stories tall?

Also also, north and east of the Aviary, what are those dotted lines? Are those also multi-level rooms, and are those stairs just leading down into the sunken areas, or did I misread the map?

This is all working off of this page, for reference.

Ja'Tubis has bought a whole bunch of parchments, a whole bunch of ink, and an assortment of rulers, compasses, and other mapping supplies in an attempt to unify the scattered maps of the Chateau that the party has put together. The idea is that he's actually going to make several tapestry-sized posters that he'll hang on the walls of the lodge of the Company of Crossed Swords, and then make more portably-sized maps of specific sections to actually carry into the Chateau. I've been using the maps we have posted already online and a few I got photos of at tonight's session to try to piece together a bit, but any other maps people have sketched over the years would be super useful, too.

This is what I've copied so far. This is a pretty big undertaking both in and out of character, so I figure I'll post my progress and ask for clarifications of people's scribblings here.
