Summary

Hoyt re-hired Gerke the Cleric and invited two additional hirelings to accompany him into the dungeon. Gerke, Hala the Spearwoman, and Stroget the Archer were all enthused at the terms: 2 gold pieces each plus a 20% cut of treasure found.

Hoyt wanted to explore Ran Lithby to the west, and led his merry band that way from the main staircase. Almost immediately they were ambushed by a giant black spider but were able to slay it quickly and without incident. The crumpled body of the spider was left in the corridor for scavengers and the party proceeded west, finding a circular room containing a curious pool of silvery-grey dust, a long corridor extending to the northwest, a horse-sized scorpion (that the party avoided), several gnomes holed up in a room with a trapped door, a large chamber carved to resemble an ivy-covered bower and magically lit, a large forge, coal storage area, wandering giant ants, and a secret shrine.

Along the way Hoyt was wounded by a crossbow bolt from the trapped door and Stroget was bitten and crushed by the giant snake before being slain in an encounter with orcs.

They decided to haul Stroget's body to the surface and leave before anything else discovered them. Hoyt spent time expanding his map of the dungeon…

For his leadership, Hoyt gains 1182 exp and gains 282 gold pieces. (Hoyt has 2,192 experience and gains an additional hit die).
The henchmen both collect 94 gold pieces, and Hoyt gains a bonus to reaction and morale rolls with both for his generous terms. They will automatically accompany him if invited on his next venture.

Exploration of the demon shrine leads to conversation with a party of lizard men who worship at the shrine. They provide directions to the Faceless One, a medusa wearing a helm with a reflective gold visor so her head cannot be seen, and who will pay for information about the dungeon environs.

She sends Daukai and Brother Bro to the northwest in search of a nest of evil priests, guarding what she thinks is an alternate entrance to the complex.

The party finds four priests, captures two alive, and returns their captives to the Faceless One. She gives them a reward of 9 rubies.

Shares of gold were 300 each, but Daukai had promised a half share of her loot to Aleris the hireling, and Brother Bro shared equally of his share with hirelings Arthuri and Seamus. Treasure gained: Brother Bro: 100 gp, Daukai: 150 gp

On returning to town he lets it be known to the innkeep that he will sell a map of his finds; he is easily found in Inkwell.

250 gp gets a copy of the complete map and explanations of the menaces and boons therein, including the Nightingale, the Shadow Eater, the Son of Aras, and the Dark Angel.

Innocent of humility, Nairda, now styled Nairda Wormlord, also corrects the general account: he guided the worm against two cinnamon swordsmen, a proboscidean behemoth, and an imp from Hell before slaying the wigglyfaced vermin himself — this after managing the same sort of trickery on a rust devourer and armored skeleton some months ago. He advertises lectures where one may hear how this is properly done. The lecture fee is 20 pieces of gold.

Nairda explores the halls of Ran Lithby further, without benefit of companions, and discovers stairs leading down to a deeper level of the dungeon. He explores a large circular area, meets a talking shriveled thing stuck in a bell-jar, and manages to lure two monstrous beasts into fighting one another.

I was sorely tempted to haul its corpse back to town and sell it for spices, but felt we owed our henchman a proper burial instead. Next time!

Searching for the source of light down a distant corridor leads to an encounter with more of the vicious grey cinnabeasts. Searching an abandoned storeroom leads to a suprising encounter with a barrel-monster.

Hoyt had to duck out of the dungeon early, but the remaining adventurers managed to glean a total of 543 exp each.

Shares of gold were 243 each, but Daukai had promised a quarter share of her loot to Aleris the hireling, and Brother Bro shared equally of his share with hirelings Arthuri and Seamus, leaving treasure gained at: Omlagus: 243 gp, Brother Bro: 81 gp, Daukai: 182 gp

Bob managed to find a stash of loot and defeat several other bands of adventuerers bandits with the help of two hirelings. Even with giving the hirelings a full share of loot and buying out thier shares in the mace, Bob walked away at the end of the adventure with 462 g.p., the mace, two ivory chess pieces, and a suit of silken chain mail.

He gained a total of 2,002 experience points.

His death is not to be mourned, but celebrated as he approaches his destiny. No no, my friend, do not think that he will be insulted by a crass material reward - his prize is Life Everlasting. You will join him in due time, I feel certain; there is no need to race!

On the fifth day of his cure Nairda awakes in his cell, shivering from the cold of the stone bed and the fading mummy-rot. At the door is an unfamiliar monk. As with all of the clerics of this faith his eyes have been torn out but he walks unaided, as though he can see.

"Nairda," he says, "my master, the bishop, left four days ago with two acolytes and two adepts. He has not returned and we fear the worst. Tell your companions we will pay for knowledge of his whereabouts, delivery of his body, or safe passage home."
