Leaving out the date in the subject line because forgetting to change it there has been confusing since we tend to just continue the old thread anyway. Which, other than having the date in the subject line, is just fine. :-)

Bill is good only for Mondays and Fridays, but if we don't start the discussion by Sunday we may only have the one choice each week. So do we want to try for tomorrow or just go with Friday, I'm good for either.

This place seems active, but I can't quite tell if new players are being taken on. If there are any campaigns or even one-shots that would like to try out a new player, say hi, please. I'm 35 and get along well, play nicely, observe Coolness, and so on. Just would love to get involved with RPGs in the area, especially Classic D&D.

There's an adventure in there, Madness at Gardmore Abbey which looks really classically old school in approach: sandbox fortress exploration, factions, some classic monsters, and everyone's favorite artifact the Deck of Many Things. If there's any interest in figuring out cooperative tactics, blowing through monsters, and kicking ass with the red-headed step-child of the D&D Family of Games, give a shout. I'd expect it to take 4-5 sessions.

(Pre-gens provided upon request for people who don't wanna be bothered with all the mini-game character build nonsense.)

Deep Carbon Observatory nominally set in Yoon-Suin, the Purple Lands (loosely inspired by Northern India and Nepal, though I confess the adventure is pretty self-contained and that stuff likely won't show up). Briefly: an ancient dam breaks, throwing a small river valley into apocalyptic ruin, and exposing treasures long thought buried with their vile subterranean makers. Rules would likely be AD&D 2e, stripped of almost all optional rules so that it plays pretty close to BX. Pre-Gens of approximately Levels 5-6 will be provided.

I'd figure this would last 4-5 sessions. Ideally we'd have a consistent group plus/minus one person or so. Any interest?

Super Saturday Has Arrived

On a related note, I just discovered Masks, which is a free Icons/FASERIP mash-up that actually has much higher production values than its parent games (aside from its pretty blah cover). It was written by the guy who put together Dark Dungeons. I'll be reading it this weekend to see which I like better.

Masks looks good, but due to my current difficulty in grokking rules it's best for me to try to absorb one at a time. :-) I like that there's more granularity in the measurements. Seems like Bulletproof Blues saw the same need and made their attribute and benchmark scale 1-14 (IIRC)

Currently running Icons weekly with a bunch of fine roleplayers, hence we haven't had much combat yet, so I'm not getting the kind of practice with the system itself that I'd like. Eventually I'd like to run it at cons with some confidence so I can look Steve Kenson in the eye while doing so.

I'd also love to play FASERIP sometime and get a hold on that, then perhaps Masks, but if Masks becomes your first choice, hey, you're the one putting in the GM time…

Anyway, I have a fair number of players so I can likely scare up a few for your game when you're ready to try it, depending on the day. If you're doing Icons we can also have their current characters pop over to your world if you like. Superheroes do that kind of thing.

• Fake Japan, using Blood & Honor (super simple system; can provide via link) - a game of samurai tragedy, supposedly, but we have been keeping it pretty light.

• Mouse Guard - this would likely be long-form, i.e., at least 6-12 sessions and maybe more.

• Apocalypse World - again, probably around 10 sessions.

Any interest in any of that?

I want at least three players to playtest with. Any less doesn't give enough feedback, so if I can't get three players, no playtest. If you're unfamiliar with SWN, its space adventure in the style of Traveller using largely BXD&D inspired rules.
