Testing to see what happens when someone has a wikidot account, but has not officially joined the site. Can I post in the forum? Seems like it.

Would it be useful to come up with a set of setting-specific tags to make the cloud more useful for players and DMs? Frex, Glantri characters might be tagged "glantri-PC" or "glantri-NPC" — or, if the group prefers, simply "glantri-character". Similar changes would apply to other tags like "location", "rules" and "treasure".

Would people find this useful in keeping track of pages for various games? Or do people find it more useful to have pages from different campaigns assembled in one place, so they can, frex, look at every campaign's PCs in a single list rather than looking through each campaign's characters individually?

I've altered permissions so that everybody who's run a game in the past (at least, that I can remember on a few second's notice) can now update the main site calendar. This will allow Greengoat to say, "Yo, here is my art show" and Charlatan to be like, "Hey let's tomcat around," and Jed to be all, "Let us talk over beers." And so forth.

I will continue to neglect my own calendar and Save vs. Frying Pan. But I wanted to empower people to do this, if they are so inclined. It is looooooooong overdue, because I am lazy.

What did you do for dice, maps, and that sort of thing?
Would you be willing to use it as part of the Red Box scene?

I think it would be interesting to try G+ as a type of ConstantCon, where someone posts and says, "Anyone up for a game tonight at 8 p.m." or something, and maybe 1-3 people show up and they play. But I don't know if there's demand for that.

I have been thinking I want to compile all my game art into one spot so I don't keep spamming the redbox boards. So I have some professional practice / technical questions for those of you in the know. My intent is to keep this stuff relatively separate from my other artwork because of different intent, so I don't want to use my existing domain. (This split in artwork is a whole 'nother line of discussion.)

• Should I have one blog for ALL game related art (Car Wars maps and other oddities included) , or set one up just for illustration work?
• What blog service should I use?
• How should I host images and also zip/pdf files to share? I use photobucket now, but what are folks preferences?
• Tumbler, Deviantart, whatever. Which ones are worthwhile?
• Any other wild suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any of her albums and the latest one so far sounds even more derivative than usual, but at 99 cents…

If the answers to any of those questions is yes, I challenge you to on-line multiplayer carnage and destruction. Any takers?

• This is good stuff, and fun for the people who partake. I don't want to take it away from anybody.

• But it makes the forums very hard to navigate and follow via the Recent Posts segment, for the less hard-core users. Greengoat, an "old-timer" on the site, has noted repeatedly that the Recent Posts tool is borderline unusable because stuff goes so fast. I think this is also behind Invincible Overlord's request for an "Active Threads" page a few weeks ago.

• A day or two ago, I tried to scroll through the Recent Post threads, whereupon I discovered that we've generated 21 pages of Recent Posts in 14 days. Unless you're checking the Red Box several times a day, you're going to fall more than a page behind. (Our definition of "recent" is so quick that even once-a-day viewers will not be current.)

• These post-game stories and fiction tend to be buried inside existing threads with undescriptive names, making them hard to find later on. A wiki page would be more permanent and easier to retrieve.

• The wiki functionality of the site has largely dwindled to nothing, which IMO is a pity. It's a powerful tool for creative collaboration and world-building, with better tools for layout and graphics than the forum software. Originally I imagined tons of player-created wiki pages, which may have been too optimistic, but I do think we could make more use of it.

• If you'd like to see what's going on in the land of make-believe, there's a Recent Changes option on the sidebar menu to find new wiki pages. A quick post to the forum, like, "Hey, my new carousing page is up! Check it out, and add to it!" would probably suffice to draw attention.

In other words, I wonder if using the wiki would be a better tool for the make-believe carousing-type adventures for the people who are interested, while also freeing the forum up to work as a tool for public communication and catch important stuff that might get crushed to death in the carousal stampede.

Now whenever someone picks up something magic, the player or DM makes a page for it, tags it with "magic-item" and the tag for the dungeon where it was discovered and KA-POW, we never lose it again.

Like we lost our Rope of Climbing. So sad.

I'm thinking of reorganizing the forum a little bit to reflect its gradual evolution.

• Section on Tavis's White Box
• Section on Quendalon's Glantri game
• Section for one-shots, with a thread for gauging interest in new projects
• Section for techincal and social issues

Other sections would either be moved down the list or hidden (data wouldn't be lost). As one-shots graduate into actual campaigns, we could give them their own sections.

Problems with this? It seems to reflect our current usage over the last 8 months or so.

But I'm wondering how you measure distances on a hex map, particularly east-west distances. You've got… (hex) -—- (hex) which is pretty frustrating. If I want to create a map that's 60 miles north to south, and 60 miles east-west, how many 6-mile hexes is that?

I wanted to be helpful and establish some goodwill between our group and theirs, so I mentioned Cafe 28.

This was probably a huge mistake, as it looks like the NYC D&D Meetup crowd is going to be descending on the place on Wednesday nights, and the Pathfinders will probably be doing the same.

This doesn't necessarily screw us at first, because Cafe 28 is fairly spacious. But those gamers will know other gamers, and before too long it's going to turn into Neutral Ground 2 up there.

The good news is that we'll probably get some new recruits - and find new people to play 4e or 3e with - but the bad news is that it's going to be hard to find space.
