G173: Den of the Deodanth

Summary

  • Pritchard speaks with Matriarch Josephine about his falsehood regarding the Hand of Kastria.
  • Martin is called to task by Alzenia Hazart for misusing her House's authority. He chooses to step down from his post as Second Goblin Master rather than accept any limits on his behavior.
  • Upon returning to Malinbois, Pritchard and Roland speak with Prince Gerard de Marais about the command structure of the Company of Crossed Swords. Roland accepts the role of Commander.
  • In the Chateau, the Company talks to a weird ebon-skinned creature from another plane. Then they kill it. A secret rooms contains a variety of keepsakes that Martin insists are magical despite all evidence to the contrary.
  • Near the Grand Stair, the Company negotiates with a night goblin behind a door. After antagonizing the creature, they decide not to risk an encounter with its brethren, so they go elsewhere.
  • The sound of running water leads to a balcony overlooking a watery channel thirty feet below
  • In a nearby suite full of mold and damp, they slay a handful of troglodytes and a trog-priest.
  • Beyond a room full of dancing, laughing ghosts, the party fights a band of night bugbears and their warlock-bugbear leader.
  • On the trip back to the surface, the party fights a dozen living shadows, then runs to escape an ambush by the night goblins they had previously bypassed.

Losses and Loot

The party defeated one bizarre extraplanar traveler (a "deodanth"), five troglodyte warriors, a troglodyte priest, six night bugbears, a night bugbear warlock and thirteen shadows.

Treasure acquired included a strange leather and platinum harness, a platinum ring set with a ruby, a black metal wand, sixty books dealing with the Ambreville family and with certain abstruse magical topics, an assortment of reagents and thaumaturgical gewgaws, a vial of powdered ruby, an engraved silver loving cup, a seashell, a portrait of a young woman, a silver necklace, a silver bracelet, a gold ring set with a sapphire, 21 pieces of crude silver and gold jewelry, a spellbook, some lab notes and a handful of coins.

For enemies defeated and treasure received, each PC received 288xp and 2265gp.
